The Senate will convene at 10:00am on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

At 11:30am, the Senate will vote on confirmation of Reuben E. Brigety II to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of South Africa.

Additional votes are possible but are not yet scheduled.

Yesterday in the Senate:

The cloture motion on the nomination of Natasha C. Merle to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of New York was withdrawn.

Leader Schumer filed cloture on the motion to concur in the House amendment, to the Senate amendment, to H.R.4346, the legislative vehicle for the CHIPS Act, with further amendment (Senate Amendment 5135).

At a time to be determined, the Senate will proceed to H.R. 7776 (Water Resources Development Act of 2022); agree to substitute #5140; have up to 1 hour for debate; vote on the motion waive any Budget points of order; and then vote on final passage (60-affirmative votes required for passage).

The Senate completed the Rule 14 process to place the following bill on the Calendar: A bill to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and ensure respect for State regulation of marriage, and for other purposes. (H.R.8404)

At 1:45pm, the Senate will vote on confirmation of Shereef M. Elnahal to be Under Secretary for Health of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Senate passed H.R.8351 – Formula Act (this bill provides through December 31, 2022, duty-free treatment to infant formula), by voice vote.

Leader Schumer made the motion to concur in the House amendment to S.3373, the legislative vehicle for the PACT Act.

The following nominations were confirmed by voice vote: 1045, 1046, 1047, 1049, 1057, 1058 and all nominations in the foreign service on the Secretary’s desk. By voice vote: S Res 568 regarding child abduction awareness month; by UC: S Res 589 commemorating the women of Ukraine.

The Senate will next convene on Monday, July 25 at 3:00pm. Following leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of House Message to accompany S. 3373. At 5:30pm, the Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to concur in the House amendment, to the Senate amendment, to H.R.4346, the legislative vehicle for the CHIPS Act, with further amendment (Senate Amendment 5135).
